Background: Physical inactivity is the fourth leading risk factor for global mortality, causing an estimated 3.2 million deaths worldwide. Of these physical inactivity- attributable deaths, 2.6 million are in low- and middle-income countries.The aim of the study: To assess the magnitude of physical activity among secondary school teachers at Al-Khalidiyyah sector, Makkah AL-Mukarramah.
To estimate the prevalence of physical activity among secondary school teachers at Al-Khalidiyyah sector, Makkah AL-Mukarramah.and to determine the Risk factors associated with physical activity among secondary school teachers.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted at agovernmental secondary school in Makkah AL-Mukarramah (Holy capital in Saudi Arabia) over a period of one-month duration in 2016 study was 44 The total number of teachers participated in the current
Results: The majority of the participants from the total sample were aged between 25 to 44 years; they represent (59.1%). Participants were predominantly married (84.1%), regarding the years of service (79.5%) of the teachers served more than 10 years.The sample categorized into sufficiently active or inactive, among all participants, (68.2%) are of participants not met the physical activity recommendations and classified as inactive.
Conclusion: the findings of the present study demonstrated a high prevalence of inactivity among Saudi teachers (68.2%). The high prevalence of inactivity seen among older age group (77.8%) represents a major health concern.
Recommendations: Health care providers have to play an important role in promoting physical activity among the Saudi population especially teachers.
